Transforming Spaces Celebrates 20 Years of Bahamian Art
The Transforming Spaces Art Tour, now in its 20th year, brought together a vibrant community of art lovers, collectors, and creatives to celebrate the dynamic evolution of Bahamian art. Held on November 16-17, 2024, in New Providence, the tour offered attendees the opportunity to explore some of the island's most renowned galleries while gaining deeper insights into the artistic heritage and contemporary trends that shape Bahamian culture. This year’s milestone event was a powerful reminder of the role art plays in both reflecting and shaping national identity.
The 2024 Transforming Spaces Art Tour featured a carefully curated selection of galleries spread across Nassau, each showcasing a unique perspective on Bahamian creativity. Attendees could choose to participate on either Saturday or Sunday, and were then transported to various gallery stops across the island.
At each gallery, artists and curators were on hand to provide details about the pieces, offering behind-the-scenes insights into the works on display and discussing the influences and techniques behind them. The experience was a blend of exploration, education, and celebration, offering guests a deeper understanding of the stories told through art.
This year's featured galleries included CAB Gallery & Studio, Doongalik Studios Art Gallery, Gallery & Wine Bar at Nassau Cruise Port (GWB), ICE Gallery, Poinciana Paper Press, TERN Gallery, The Current: Baha Mar Gallery & Art Center + Sixty2Sixty, and the University of The Bahamas' Pro Gallery.
Beyond the galleries, the day’s events also included wines and spirits at each stop, providing visitors with a chance to relax and reflect on the art in an informal setting.
The 2024 edition of Transforming Spaces not only celebrated the rich artistic heritage of the Bahamas but also looked to the future of Bahamian art. Over the years, the event has become a crucial fixture on Nassau’s cultural calendar, providing a platform for both seasoned and emerging artists to connect with audiences and for the public to engage in meaningful dialogue about art, culture, and identity. This year, as the event marked its 20th anniversary, it was clear that Transforming Spaces has grown into a celebration of the country’s artistic evolution—one that continues to inspire and unite the Bahamian community.
