My Story 2+4+2: Meet Photographer Alfred Anderson
We're excited to share the 2+4+2 story of photographer Alfred Anderson.
Alfred recently unveiled his newest project—Studio A—which is a studio located in Grand Bahama that celebrates and fosters creative diversity. This is his story...
Career Field & Title: Creative Entrepreneur – Creative Lead for The Anderson Group
Alfred: The Professional
Poinciana Magazine: What was your childhood dream? (You can interpret this however you wish)
Alfred: Honestly, I didn’t have a traditional “dream job” like being a doctor or lawyer. I just knew I loved creating things. As a kid, I spent hours making short videos with my mom’s camcorder and digital camera, filming anything that sparked my imagination. Back then, I had no idea you could actually make a living off of being creative—I was just having fun. When I found out that you could turn this passion into a career, I thought, "Well, this changes everything!" So, I guess my childhood dream wasn’t so much about a specific job; it was about always finding ways to create and tell stories visually, which eventually evolved into what I do now.
Poinciana Magazine: What inspired you to enter your current career field, how did you get here and what do you love most about it?
Alfred: Initially, I wanted to be a fashion photographer, but during college, my perspective started to expand. I was a university photographer at Missouri State University, which gave me the chance to explore different types of photography, like sports and event photography. It really opened my eyes to the broader world of capturing moments. When I first decided to pursue photography as a career, it was considered unusual to call yourself an artist or a photographer, and most people expected me to follow a more traditional path, like law or medicine. But I realized early on that I wanted to bring my imagination to life. Watching shows like America’s Next Top Model inspired me—seeing creative directors turn bold concepts into beautiful visuals sparked something in me. Now, what I love most is that the moments I capture will last forever, turning fleeting experiences into lasting stories.
Poinciana Magazine: Tell me about an unexpected professional challenge that you have faced and how you overcame it?
Alfred: One of the biggest challenges I didn’t see coming was not being fully prepared for the business side of things. Early on, I didn’t know much about invoicing, setting up contracts, or even the importance of being really organized with paperwork. It was a steep learning curve, but I adapted and pushed through. I didn’t expect to fall in love with corporate work, but I’ve really grown to appreciate it and it has become such a key part of what I do.
Poinciana Magazine: What professional advice would you give your younger self?
Alfred: I’d definitely tell my younger self to take at least one business course. It would have saved me a lot of headaches early on. But more than that, I’d say trust the process. The dark moments are part of the journey they help you appreciate the light when it comes. Keep evolving, and don’t rush the growth. Everything will fall into place when the time is right.
Alfred: The Person
Poinciana Magazine: What do you currently find most enjoyable? (You can interpret this however you wish)
Alfred: Right now, I’m really enjoying stepping more into film and cinematic storytelling. It’s exciting to explore how I can merge my Bahamian roots with universal stories, blending the personal and cultural. I’m also loving those quiet moments when I can just let my imagination flow and create something purely from instinct. Bringing new ideas to life in Studio A and sharing that creativity with others has been incredibly fulfilling.
Poinciana Magazine: What personal advice would you give your younger self?
Alfred: Don’t be afraid to take risks and let go of things that aren’t serving you - whether it’s projects, ideas, or even people. Trust your vision, and remember that you don’t have to have everything figured out. Keep moving forward, and the right opportunities will come.
