Grand Bahamian Talent Shines at the 2024 Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival
The 2024 Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival, held from October 22 to 27 at the Baha Mar Resort, was a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity, and flavour. In addition to featuring a number of exceptional global chefs and artists, Grand Bahama was well-represented at the festival, showcasing a remarkable display of both culinary and artistic talent, underscoring the island’s significant contributions to the nation’s growing cultural scene.
Baha Mar, a luxury destination known for its world-class offerings, is home to several Grand Bahamian chefs who play an integral role not just at the festival but in shaping the resort’s diverse culinary landscape. Chef Garrette Bowe, who plays a key role at Marcus Restaurant year-round, is constantly sharing her unique take on Bahamian fine dining. Also making a mark at Baha Mar is Chef Tevin Kem. Chef Kemp leads The Kitchen culinary classes year-round, where guests can learn the art of Bahamian and international cooking in an engaging and interactive setting. His dynamic presence at the festival added an extra spark to the chef demos and workshops, offering festival-goers the opportunity to experience the true flavour of the Bahamas.
This year’s festival also featured Chef Harold Pinder, Executive Chef at The Galley and owner of Bunappetit Burgers in Grand Bahama. Chef Pinder flew in to lend his expertise behind the scenes.
On the artistic side, Grand Bahama’s visual arts scene took centre stage at the Fuze Art Pavilion, where three of the island’s most talented artists—Chantal Bethel, Lisa Codella, and Sheldon Saint—came together for a stunning collaborative exhibition titled "Nexus".
Adding to the energy of the festival, Anastarcia "Star" Palacious hosted many of the chef demonstrations throughout the week. Known for her engaging personality, Star brought a unique flavour to the festival, guiding guests through cooking experiences.
The festival also welcomed Sea Gate Wines, a collaboration between husband-and-wife duo Sommelier Rebecca Tibbitts and Chef Tim Tibbitts, who presented their carefully curated selection of wines at the food-tasting pavilion.
