On March 20, the Bahamas Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources, in collaboration with Bamsi Bahamas, hosted the Coconut 360° Festival at Rawson Square in New Providence. The event aimed to showcase the versatility of coconuts and celebrate their widespread uses in various aspects of Bahamian life.

The festival featured a variety of vendors offering food, jewelry, and crafts, all centered around coconut-based products. Additionally, the event saw participation from several local schools, including the University of the Bahamas, where culinary students showcased authentic Bahamian dishes, including coconut jimmy.

Nearly every part of the coconut can be used in various forms, making it extremely versatile. In addition to their role in a wide range of dishes, coconuts can also be used to make coconut oil, coconut water, and even coconut flour. Coconut-derived products have become popular not only for their taste but also for their numerous health benefits. Coconut oil, for example, is renowned for its many uses in cooking, skincare, and even as a natural remedy. Coconut water is a refreshing beverage known for its excellent hydration properties, making it an ideal drink, especially in hot climates like the Bahamas. Coconut flour, a gluten-free alternative, is widely used in baking, adding both flavor and nutritional value.

Beyond their culinary and practical uses, coconuts offer a range of health benefits. They are an excellent source of fiber, which supports digestive health and helps maintain a healthy gut. Additionally, the healthy fats found in coconut products can also help boost energy levels and support heart health. Whether enjoyed as a drink, ingredient, or natural remedy, coconuts are a powerhouse of nutrition that contributes to overall well-being. The Coconut 360° Festival celebrated all that coconuts offer, both culturally and nutritionally.
